Castner’s Cutthroats aka Alaskan Scouts

Aleutian Islands Beautry
I watched this amazing documentary on the Discovery Channel about the various wars that the United States fought in the mid 20th century to protect the Alaskan borders from Japanese and Russian invasions.

The Japanese had taken over the Aleutian Islands of Attu and Kiska, in the Bering Sea. The climatic and geographical conditions on these remote islands were so harsh that Colonel Lawrence Castner appointed a small group of locals (Castner’s cutthroats) for helping out the American troops fight the Japanese intruders.

These Alaskan Scouts could survive under any conditions in these remote regions provided they were given a knife to hunt and a rifle to protect themselves. They would usually always travel ahead of the American troops and help them acclimatize to the hostile environment. They would teach the American troops on how to hunt for food, protect themselves from the harsh climate and move efficiently across the cold and wild Alaskan terrain.

Castner’s cutthroats played a very important role in winning back the Attu and Kiska islands that the Japanese had invaded. The documentary showed the actual historical events that took place in Alaska and how the scouts always came on top of the situation. They even helped the American army build a runway for their Bombers by drying a local waterbody which cut the flying distance for these bombers by half.

I must say I was really impressed by this documentary and by the deeds of Castner’s cutthroats.

Temperature controlled gargle water dispenser

I have seasonal alergies. And the first problem I always face is a sore throat. So I get up in the morning and heat the water for gargling my throat every morning; what really annoys me is I always either over heat it or under heat it.

I wish I had a controlled gargle water dispenser. All I would need to do is, set a certain temperature, fill the gargle water dispenser with water and dispense it in a glass when needed. That would save so much time heating and cooling and reheating water, especially in the morning when I am already feeling sick.

Now I don’t mean to act like a lazy bum . . . but wouldn’t it be cool if this gargle water dispenser also had a salt addition slot along with it . . . so I can add the exact amount of salt in my warm water for a soothing early morning gargle.

Just a thought.

Anti-Microwave : A regulated cooling machine

Sometimes when you overheat your morning coffee or hot chocolate in the microwave don’t you wish you had a machine (and I don’t mean a refridgerator) that could cool your drink instantly in a controlled manner at a cooler temperature.

I don’t know about you, I wish I had one so I didn’t have to waste time waiting for the hot drink to cool down on its own OR by putting the liquid container in another container filled with cold water and even adding ice to it sometimes :-D .

Just a thought.

Are there “remote controlled” plugs ?

So the other day I got into bed under my warm sheets all ready for a good night sleep.
You know how it feels when you are nice and cozy in bed at night after a long days work; you don’t want to get up even if you are being called to collect the Nobel Prize. Well thats the exact time when I realized that my bed room light was on.
Oh Noooo!!
Now the switch to my bed room floor lamp is right next to the bed room door so you switch it on as soon as you enter the room. Very convinient right. Well not in this scenario. Thats when the question popped into my mind

Are there “remote controlled” plugs ?

How cool would it be if my plug point would have a remote control that would be right on my side table. I would just reach out, grab the remote and switch off the light. I would slip away in deep sleep ….and zzz…zzz…But NO. Thats not how it was; I had to move my warm comfortor, get out of bed and switch of the floor lamp. I wish my plugs were remote controlled….well the first question being Are There Remote Controlled Plugs At All ? Any suggestions are welcome :)

Crazy Axel-Man

The picture says it all. Need I say more.
This guy is the closest reincarnation of CARTMAN (from South Park) that I know.
His favorite movie is ‘House Of Wax’ because his to be wife is acting in it.
He loves to eat at Souplantation. If you ever want to give him a gift card to a restaurant…Souplantation it is.
At work he often goes by several different names viz. Harold, Jeremy, Tony and sometimes Josh.
One sport that you never discuss with him is Basketball. He hates Basketball.
He loves golf though. Kobe is his favorite golfer.
Josh is VERY Hardworking. Infact he is HARDLY working.
There is one little secret that only I know about Josh. He has an imaginary friend called Doria that he keeps talking about.
Josh is my Best Friend.

The Grand Canyon National Park

A Grand Experience. Even though this was my 2nd visit to the Grand Canyon National Park I was still in complete awe of what I saw. I must admit that the weather was much better than last time. The sun was high, but at the same time a cool breeze blew throughout the day. I saw most of Canyon in the car. We drove from point to point and took lots of pictures.
If you want to stay at an affordable place close to the park’s entry, the Grand Canyon Inn is the perfect choice. We got two rooms for a night for $131.
The next time I go to the Grand Canyon I would definately want to see the canyon from a helicopter or a chartered plane. Hiking was something we missed on, which I would like to do next time. Even though we didn’t take the aerial tour of the canyon, the IMAX at the Grand Canyon gave us a great simulation of the same.
Can’t wait to go back to the Grand Canyon.

USC To The ROSE Bowl !! Wooooooooo !!!

We did it AGAIN !!!
I knew we would make it to the Rose Bowl but never anticipated that we would be so dominating in our win against UCLA; what could make a Trojan feel better than beat UCLA comprehensively just before the finale on January 4th 2006 at Pasadena.
Reggie did his magic (my candidate for the Heisman Trophy), Matt came back strongly in the second half (his final appearance at the Coliseum), LenDale White had a great game too.
USC destroyed UCLA. Our offence was just too strong for their defence.
This was our 34th consecutive victory.

Now only Texas stands in the way of USC and the 3rd consecutive National title, a feat never achieved in the history of college football.

GO TROJANS !!!

Movies

Since I now have sufficient time to post several reviews of flicks that I’ve seen (and enjoyed), I’ll do so. You see, unlike Mr. USC, during working hours, I’m extremely busy and can never seem to find time to update his blog as quickly as he would like. If I were to leave it up to Mr. USC, he would have me halt my job responsibilities (much like what I’m doing right at this moment) and post something….anthing, to his most beloved blog!

So, Mr. USC, this is especially for you….hope you enjoy.
